I'll definitely be thinking about this book for a while; its story of the effects of motherhood on the mother and her relationship(s), the expectations of motherhood, and generational trauma. This book is legitimately every fear/nightmare I have about being a parent in 300 pages
(anti-social child, losing a child, crumbling of a healthy marriage, parental regret leading to a human being feeling unloved/unwanted who didn't ask to be in the world etc etc)
. I just read through it with this huge sense of dread/anxiety/depression the entire time really. I have a friend who told me one time "you always bring up that argument" when I say one reason I don't want kids is because
what if it is anti-social and becomes a serial killer.
.Anyway this book is essentially those exact fears realized, but also mixed in with the fucked-up-ness of generational trauma. Easy to read in one day and kept me on edge from the first page to the last. 4.5 stars
