What We Don't Talk About When We Talk About Fat by Aubrey Gordon

4.0

I’ve followed Aubrey Gordon at her social media handle, Your Fat Friend, for years and recently fell in love with her new podcast, Maintenance Phase. I was so excited to find out she wrote a book and was not disappointed. In this book she tackles anti-fat bias and its presence in every facet of modern life: healthcare, employment, education, relationships, etc. She delves into each of these topics with honesty, courage, grace, and intelligence. At times, it was a difficult listen (I had the audiobook) due to the extreme discrimination she described but the examples she used made her argument that much more powerful: that fat people face systemic discrimination and that they deserve respect and dignity because they are human beings. I highly recommend this book.
