Just One Damned Thing After Another by Jodi Taylor

2.0

Shallow characters with a novel idea for the plot.

I rather liked the premise for this story quite a lot, though I could rather have done without the bad guys, to be honest. I would have been far happier with a “simple” adventure novel. The characters, on the other hand, needed some hella work. I still don’t feel I know our main protagonists AT ALL. I don’t even fully understand why Maxwell and Chief even like each other, much less love. We know nothing of Maxwell’s past, though it is referred to on several occasions; and she is soooo beyond naive (I know she even admits it herself) but damn-she just takes a major confession from Chief like it’s no big deal, and there’s no reason she should question this AT ALL. And frankly the poorly placed and poor set-up sex scene was just-well, more startling than it was titillating.

As I previously stated, I didn’t care much for the Bad Guy set-up. It seemed too predictable or maybe over-used. As a simple adventure story it would have been simpler, but still more enjoyable. Oh yeah, in my opinion!
