I read this as  a Book Club recommendation. The start of it felt very promising but about half way through I felt like the pace changed and it became less of an ethereal romp through a boarding school populated by children who have entered magical worlds, and more of a humdrum murder mystery.

I love the representation of diverse sexuality and neurodiversity and Disability rep in Seanan McGuire's books, but the actual plot of this story didn't grab me as much as the setting and characters.

It felt a bit like Wednesday Adams visits Willy Wonka, (some fae scary energy there) and then they spend half a book trying to figure out who is offing the Oompaloopas.

Worth a read but I need to learn not to get my hopes up.
