beagley 's review for:
The Anomaly
by Hervé Le Tellier
Clever. Unintentionally misanthropic. (I thought the big science fiction surprise was going to be explaining why everyone on a certain airplane was selfish, catty, broken, self-destructive, immoral, and/or surrounded by same. Instead, maybe the author actually feels this way about humanity?)
Many will not like the unsatisfactory arcs and conclusion--but it all felt intentional to me. This is how much this author invests, this is what they decided to share. Angular choices that don't quite align with expectations. And that is fine.
Writing/translation is strong. Story is laced with some hope.
Recommended for patient science fiction readers who appreciate shoes that don't quite fit.
