The first two chapters are a bit dark with World War II. It can be a relaxing read at times except in the audiobook she makes various accents and suddenly her voice gets louder. Some parts are in French, which she doesn't translate. Recipes are included in the audiobook.
she does come across as opinionated and privileged at times, finding fault with horse meat when she has no issue with eating multiple kinds of other animals. Her opinions lacking depth and not in line with reality, judging people for buying ready meals not taking into account -disability,people having multiple jobs and barely surviving.Same goes with marriage- trauma can wreak havoc in relationships and "working on compromising" will not be enough. Had to take breaks in between chapters as she was getting annoying with these mini opinion pieces every so often. She also simplistically thinks weight gain is a lack of self control and lifestyle issue ,not acknowledging metabolism changes can occur due to medication and gut microbiome and people having to work multiple jobs with no time for cooking and also ultra processed foods manufactured to have that more-ish bliss point quality. She does sound stuck up. Behind the scenes of the Great British Bake Off was interesting to learn about.
