I had high hopes for this, because I do rather like Tchaikovsky's ideas, and I loved the idea of the pet allosaurus. In the end, it fell a bit flat for me because of the characters, even as I enjoyed the concept of how time travel could be used as a weapon, what it might do, and what it might be like for a soldier fighting in such a war. That part was really well done.

I didn't, however, enjoy the character himself, nor really any of the characters introduced. It sort of makes sense why he treats people as toys -- time and the people experiencing that time no longer seem real once smashed into disconnected fragments -- but it's still not fun to read (for me). I recognise that others can enjoy black humour, but it's less my thing, and they just seemed like a bunch of psychopaths.

I did find it enjoyable in terms of following the ideas and seeing how things would work out... but I just couldn't get all the way on board. And there wasn't enough of the allosaurus for my liking. More Miffly, please!
