Soooo glad I listened to the audiobook! Davis's story is heartbreaking and triumphant and difficult to listen to sometimes. The bond she has with her sisters is so lovely. It was so cool to listen to her talk about the beginning of her acting career and how acting made her feel while she was on stage and her struggles as a young, broke artist. Hearing her talk about the lack of deep roles for people of color and how your skin has to be a certain color to get certain roles was truly eye opening. It's just not something I think about that often. Her father was incredibly abusive during her childhood but I'm so glad he changed and became a better man later on in his life. I loved Davis talking about dating her husband and how protective he is, it was incredibly sweet. You definitely have to check this one out!
