The Passing Playbook by Isaac Fitzsimons

5.0

I read this book in 6 hours, it was such a delight to read. From everything to the representation, the plot, characters and everything in between, I enjoyed all of it so much it was such a quick and easy read for me. This book has been on my TBR for a while now and I regret putting it off for so long.

While it was funny, lighthearted and so fucking cute, It covered so many VERY important topics to LGBTQ+ struggles, religion, sports, racism etc and i felt like the author did a good job showing these important topics and how they can play out overall. Spencer and Justice are so adorable and how their relationship developed was such a joy to read. I absolutely LOVED Spencer’s parents and how supportive they were, how much they were willing to learn and educate themselves. I loved spencer’s friends and the soccer team and their dynamics/support they have to one another, I really wanted more of their interactions!

Theo was such a great character too, probably my favourite! As a queer black, trans and autistic person who grew up with religious parents myself i felt so seen and heard in this book and loved every second of that representation and loved seeing the similarities the struggles I face day to day. I also appreciate that we saw so much queer joy and not just 300+ pages of queer people being traumatised which was very refreshing to me.

Overall, I absolutely would recommend this book to anyone, loved loved loved everything this book was about.
