The Wayward Bus by John Steinbeck, Gary Scharnhorst

5.0

Damn, I love Steinbeck. Maybe I should have given it 4.5 stars, but since that's not possible, I just rounded up. I suppose it could be said that this isn't his strongest book--it's not nearly as intense as Grapes of Wrath or East of Eden. Yet the simplicity of this book--it just works. It was a beautiful read and Steinbeck's writing speaks to my soul again and again. I guess I am a Steinbeck girl through and through. He just has a talent for creating such rich characters and somehow manages to keep details fascinating instead of tedious. A good read indeed.
