The Hurting Kind
by Ada Limón
Another stunning and engaging collection from Ada Limón, here deepening her studies of family, heartbreak, love, ageing and the natural world. I love Limón's style: her direct language and her clear images build to a depth of emotion and tenderness that is satisfying and surprising. This collection deals with the loneliness of the pandemics, as well as the joy found in small moments of connection, and her interactions with animals. She also looks at the meaning of family, particularly for someone who will never be a parent, and at the ways in which we learn to appreciate our parents and grandparents more the older we get. Frank, heartbreaking and surprising, this is another collection to treasure.
