This book picks up right after the events of Strange the Dreamer, but introduces two "new" characters right at the beginning, who play a big part in the overall story arc. Whereas the first book focussed more on dreams and The Dreamer Lazlo, this one is broader in terms of other characters and provides answers to the questions that arose in the first one. There is a lot more action and we see a lot more of the world, which switches to almost sci-fi towards the end.

I loved Muse of Nightmares as much as the first one, although I did miss the slower and dreamy pace of Strange the Dreamer. On the other hand, this story was packed with emotion and plot twists and there was never a dull moment. I fell even more in love with each of the characters, and find myself thinking of them randomly during the day, as if they're old friends.

Both books were beautifully written and full of magic and wonder, and I would recommend them to anyone who loves fantasy in any shape or form!
