Damn this story was intense!

The way that the author brings you into the minds of these characters, slowly peeling away at the facade they present to the world until you finally see how fucked up and flawed they are, it’s masterfully done.

I knew going in that there was a twist of some kind so I was watching out for it and had a few theories about what it could be. Even though my main theory ended up being correct, there was enough doubt sown that I was never 100% sure until the reveal came, and it was glorious.

(Implied spoilers for the twist start now, don’t read if you care about the plot twist!)

The diary was good enough that I was willing to consider that maybe Nick had killed his wife, and that HIS narration was the unreliable one that would later prove to be false. It was used really well as a narrative device before we were finally brought to Amy’s real narrative.

Amy thinks of herself as judge, jury and executioner, as the grande orchestrator playing everyone around her. She thinks she is owed everything, and if you don’t follow her script you’re now in her way, or worse, her enemy. She is honestly terrifying, but being in her head as a reader is sooooo fascinating. I hope I never run into an Amy in real life haha!
