Gods in Alabama by Joshilyn Jackson
4.0
This book tugged at every emotion in me. Arlene’s emotional complexity, comprised of equal layers of humor, shame, pride, and tenacity develop her into a deeply relatable and plucky protagonist. Combine those attributes with her legalistic relationship with God built through 1990’s Southern Baptist preaching, and you get an unpredictable tale of redemption propelled by love.
