If I read more horror books, then it will be because of this novel; if I don’t read anymore, then that statement still stands. This book is A RIDE. I will need a few days to process it.

Heartbreaking in its exploration and details of the American frontier and the effects on First Nation peoples, including the Marias Massacre, buffalo slaughters, and racism/prejudices of the time period. One quote sticks in my head:
“You cannot stop a country from being built.
We were already a nation. Why did you come for us?”

It is  gory in some places; I had to put the book down and walk away. However, the author makes you feel like being stalked in certain parts. Symbolism is heavy throughout the book, especially as food/hunger/satiation is a common theme alongside loss, revenge, and rage. The book can be slow in certain parts, and the animal naming conventions can be confusing at first. I will check out the author’s other books to see if I am truly a horror reader.
