mundinova 's review for:
A Rising Man
by Abir Mukherjee
A solid historical mystery!
For the genre, Mukherjee exceeds expectations:
- intriguing murder mystery with multiple suspects
- the clues are available for the reader to solve the mystery
- the characters are multidimensional and culturally and historically accurate (as much as can be)
- the pacing is quick and includes character development along the way
- the setting is rich and palpable; as a reader you'll feel the heat and humidity of Calcutta
This will be my go-to historical mystery book suggestion for anyone who says they want to read something like Miss Fisher Murder Mysteries, Maisie Dobbs, or a Sherlock & Watson pairing set in a different place and time.
Story: 4 stars
Character Development: 4 stars
Writing/Prose: 4 stars
