The Private Diary of Mr. Darcy by Maya Slater

4.0

I bought this book the other day when we were in Mendocino (California). It is Pride and Prejudice, written from Darcy's point of view. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, in some ways more and in some ways less than Austen's version. One thing that I didn't like was that, in his conversations with Elizabeth, there were very few details about what was being said. I think that the best way to read this book is with Pride and Prejudice available for reference, so that you could go deeper into the story.

This certainly is a book only for those who have read P&P, and know the story well. Regardless of how you read this book, something to keep in mind is that Slater is using her own ideas and interpretations. Something that I often found myself saying, and tried not to do, was, "Oh, I didn't know he did that." Then, I would remember, "Oh yeah, she made that up."
