Not rating this one because it's a book I can recognize the value of even while I did not particularly like the book. The writing was a special highlight for me. The vignettes in the book read almost like a child's diary entry, which I really enjoyed. But that also created a distance between the reader and the characters that made the story overall difficult to connect to. That said, I think someone with an upbringing or life similar to Esparanza will find the stories more reminiscent and therefore have a better time.
