The Abyss Surrounds Us
by Emily Skrutskie
Cassandra Leung life ends the day it begins. Shit hits the fan fast in this book, and there's not much she can do really.
Unfortunately, the things she can do, the things she says she should do, she doesn't. She's mostly talk and nothing to show for it. Yes, she trains Bao. But she develops a somewhat twisted Stockholm syndrome, sympathizes with pirstes and make almost every excuse to forgive them, and all-too-easily abandons her ideas of revenge and going back home.
There was so much potential for this book. The concept was really interesting and I was 100% down for the Cas being gay, but the characters themselves felt kind of lacking. Might read the next book. Hopefully Cas's potential has better developed there.
