Le Comte de Monte-Cristo by Alexandre Dumas

5.0

The ultimate revenge novel. With its 1200 pages it is a bit more wordy than my favourite Dumas novel, the Black Tulip. Still, it is worth the read ; do not accept abridged versions. Here again, Dumas masterfully combines historical fact - the return of Napoleon from Elba - with dramatic fiction.
You can tell that the novel was written in instalments, but in a sense that adds to its value (and length). Each section ends with a cliffhanger that compels you to read further, and you will not be disappointed by the way the story unfolds.
