Children of Virtue and Vengeance by Tomi Adeyemi

Think I’m gonna DNF this at 60% / Chapter 48. Maybe I’ll try finishing it in the future but tbh I just have no motivation to read this anymore.

The characters no longer interest me. Zélie used to be this badass heroine who fought for freedom and did what she could to correct her mistakes. Now she’s just rude and is a shitty friend to Amari, which is a big bummer bc they could’ve made such a power duo. Her actions and attitude flip flop continuously and I’m just not here for this high schooler mindset.

Amari wanted to be queen but spends her time getting walked all over by everyone else. That was basically her entire role.

Tzain just kinda faded away from existence. Last I checked he was still with them but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ guess he is no longer relevant so the author booted him.

Spoiler Inan is a coward who also gets walked over even though he’s literally the king.
None of these people should be in charge of anyone because they’re all too petty and immature, but especially not
Spoiler this grown-ass man who has done nothing productive the entire time he’s been ruling.

Also the plot is just... somewhere else. Zélie wants to fight
Spoiler Inan
, Amari wants to talk to
Spoiler Inan
, and so most of the book is them bickering about it. Also I still don’t understand what the point of the war is anymore. It used to be that the non-magic normies were mad at the people who had magic, but now it seems like everyone has magic so what the fuck.
