The Stone Sky by N.K. Jemisin

3.0

What I wanted from this conclusion: 1) Some explanations - mostly check; 2) some action that moved the plot forward - mostly check; 3) feeling some emotion towards the characters - nope (but I never really did in the other books, so I didn't have high hopes for it here); 4) more chapters from Shaffa's POV - nope (I think a severe detriment to the third book, as he really was the most intriguing character and the one who had changed most in the series). What we did get was chapters from Hoa's POV, which I very much enjoyed - he was certainly the most emotionally relatable character in the series, and his chapters provided much needed back story and explanation of how the world came to be in such a mess. However, there were still a few to many gaps missing for me to be really satisfied by the backstory and the ultimate resolution of conflict (which, compared to how plodding the series is, happened exceedingly quickly in the second to last chapter). I'm not disappointed I read this, as it was very different from novels I've read before (in the writing style and world building) and that in itself is an accomplishment.
