After once trying to read At The Mountains of Madness, I wasn’t sure on Lovecraft, but do love the idea of cosmic horror.

The Colour Out of Space is everything I wanted it to be. It gives no real explanation as to what happened, why it happened, or how it happened, only giving you the events from the memory of an old man, a perfect example of extraterrestrial life(?) being unimaginable to humanity and causing mental anguish as people try to reason with what they’re seeing.

Also, despite Lovecraft being a known racist there’s little to no racism in this story, which was a relief.
