Females by Andrea Long Chu

i don't even know how to rate this. i think this book is brave and subversive and plays around with ideas in a way that is meant to make you confused. i don't think you're meant to agree or even understand everything you read, to me it felt more like an exercise for the brain to approach ideas that force you to detangle and be comfortable not knowing.

i can see how this can be read as an "attack" on womanhood, and from the other reviews i can also see that was the case for many, but i don't think that's where it's going. i think to me it read more as a criticism for how we have constructed femaleness.... idk i still have to detangle some on these ideas, but definitely an interesting read that made my brain hurt in a way it hasn't since i graduated uni

*some of the transphobia in these reviews makes me sick btw, just because you disagree with someone does not mean you have the right to be a bigoted pos*
