Interesting idea but there is something missing in the execution.
Very complicated set up. Some themes are not very well explained. For example: while there is very detailed description of London and the setting the magical aspects seem to be more of an afterthought. The reader is simply meant to accept some facts without further explanation.
The blatantly sexualised thoughts towards every single female character rubbed me the wrong way.
