Let This Radicalize You by Mariame Kaba, Kelly Hayes

challenging informative inspiring tense slow-paced

3.75

If you are a beginner in organizing and activist work, there are some phenomenal ideas here, supported by anecdotes from Hayes's and Kaba's extensive organizing experiences. If you are immersed in the activist/organizer world, you may gain some new ideas, but this book will largely be a confirmation of your approach. Where things get interesting is if you have never considered what goes into being an organizer or activist. Readers who are open to learning may get a perspective shift that will spur them into action. Readers who are skeptical may be inspired to step into these efforts or they may be put off by language that they find "radical." (The irony, of course, is that radicalization is in the title, so there is nothing mysterious about this book's content.) Overall, Hayes and Kaba have much wisdom to share, and despite quite a bit of repetition, this is a solid guide, both for specific ideas and an overarching perspective on gathering community in pursuit of social justice.
