War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy

3.0

I liked the book but it was so long and at times hard to read a great deal of at once that it took me a long time to finish it. I also felt pretty well blocked by it -- worrying that if I picked up anything else of any significant length, I'd back-burner War and Peace, which I didn't want to do. So I spent around six months with this book, reading in fits and starts.

It's not all that hard a book, and even the many characters it's known for didn't pose too big a difficulty, as there are really only probably 20 - 30 who are all that important.

I glazed over during a lot of the war portions and some of the pontifications about war and government and such especially toward the end.

I'm glad I read it. I doubt I will again.
