Cyrano de Bergerac
by Edmond Rostand
So, I finished this play right before going to see a production of it. It's amazing what watching a play does for a work. I think I enjoyed the production much better because the translation was better than the one I read. Also, you get all the blanks interpreted and filled in. I had a better understanding of relationships and character. This is such a beautiful story, one that I think we still need to hear today, about the beauty of the heart over the body. Cyrano is such a confident, bold man, despite and maybe because of his nose. He doesn't let his appearance stop him from achieving anything, except for the most vulnerable thing: love. This is great tell of worth and loyalty. I would give this translation a 2 or 2.5, but I put 3 because of seeing the production right after reading it. I would give the production a 4.
