Beloved by Toni Morrison

4.0

Beloved is a dark, haunting, complex book that'll probably take me multiple reads to fully grasp. I don't know if it's Morrison's prose, the nonlinear structure for flashbacks and time shifts, and/or the overall heaviness throughout the book, but it's hard to follow at times. I'll revisit it again and rate it then.

Update: Upon reading this book for a second time, I still stand by my first impression of it. It's heavy and multilayered. I think the more I revisit Beloved, the more things I didn't notice before will unveil itself to me. For example, this time I noticed a number of biblical allusions I hadn't before.
