I often laughed reading Carrie’s child like and stubborn perspective on different situations. And I loved that she said cain’t and git. However the overall tone of the book was dark with physical, mental, and sexual abuse woven throughout the novel. This is a fascinating take on how children cope with extensively traumatic events.

If you liked The Glass Castle you will more than likely enjoy this book from a child’s point of view.
