The Blood Trials
by N.E. Davenport
fast-paced
Do not recommend
This book was on sale so I got it. I honestly have no idea how I finished it. I would have regretted reading this, if it was memorable enough to actually feel regret. The book was so simple and straightforward and short, that it was more convenient to keep reading than to stop reading and have to figure out something else to do with my day.
I occasionally enjoy reading new adult fiction, but it didn’t even feel like new adult. It felt like a YA book. You know when a kid is hanging out with older kids and they want to come across more mature and experienced so they start cussing or drink a beer? But their overall demeanor is still immature. This was that. the edginess was so forced.
The romance was so out of left field to. She had zero chemistry with this guy. Occasionally noticing he’s good looking doesn’t mean they have to bang. She was investigating the dude for her grandpas murder when they fucked. Her one personality trait is avenging her grandpa, and she’s going to sleep with the dude that she thinks did it?!?
Bad world building.
One dimensional characters.
I could go on and on but it seems a lot of people in the reviews have said it all very well already.
This is a minor detail, but the author would always say temp instead of temperature. Every time I read it, it would throw me off a little. This is a book, not a text message.
