My sister informed me the other day that we grew up with this book. Upon further investigation, it seems to have been a more condensed version for younger readers. This hopefully had something to do with me not remembering the story at all, and I'm glad I was able to read it again as an adult. That being said, I think that reading it in the company of a child would bring so much more enjoyment! I'd have a hard time arguing it not being billed as 'One of the most celebrated works of classic children's literature'.

"The mole was a good listener, and Toad, with no one to check his statements or to criticize in an unfriendly spirit, rather let himself go. Indeed, much that he related belonged more properly to the category of 'What might have happened had I only thought of it in time instead of 10 minutes afterwards'. Those are always the best and the raciest adventures, and why should they not be truly ours? As much as the somewhat inadequate things that really come off."
