Iron and Magic by Ilona Andrews

5.0

I really enjoyed this. Marriage of Convenience, enemies to lovers, apparently also a redemption arc for an important henchman character in a different series I haven't read....but if I can find book 1 I will. This is the first arranged marriage I have read in which the woman was a social equal-not being sold off by a parent. And I gotta say....I like it much more. Elara is so powerful as a personality and so secure. I loved watching their relationship grow from resentment to respect and understanding, and love.

The world is a future in which magic and tech take turns being dominant, without warning. So your healing factor might be busy knitting you back together and then a tech wave hits and now you need a medic, stat. Really interesting concept.

This is definitely not YA. It is more detailed gore than I prefer, and they aren't shy about sex, either. And they approach it like adults.

overall, story, characters, humor, world...here for it.

I dont know if there is a book 2 yet but it wraps up well enough that I won't die while waiting for more. So that is a plus.
