annabi 's review for:
Gracefully Grayson
by Ami Polonsky
THIS BOOK!!! WAS SO AMAZING!!!! AND SAD AND HURT ME A LOT BUT AMAZING!!!!
Grayson is a very interesting character. I love how he grows into her voice as the novel progresses. I am personally not transgender-- I'm surprised they never used this word in the book though-- but I read a lot of lgbt literature, fiction and non fiction, and I feel like polonsky did a great job at portraying many different and realistic reactions to Grayson wanting to play Persephone. (spoiler: even tho the aunt was totally at fault for removing Finn from Porter, I understood why she was so concerned. kids are mean and they were mean to Grayson but it's her choice to portray herself how she wants/is). the only problem I had is that the novel didn't feel conclusive. I can't identify what was missing, but I didn't feel like everything was tied up. it would be amazing if she wrote a sequel about them but idk if that's gonna happen. this review is even less eloquent than usual but basically I love Grayson sender and she didn't deserve any of the shit she got but I'm so proud of her bravery and polonsky is a great writer
