It's a telenovella in book form with the occasional elegant wording. It starts to unravel towards the end and - what I think the author meant to be circuitous - becomes repetitive. There is an entire scene where everything is described as "tears" - willing to attribute that to translator error but it's a scene one really needs to be fully immersed in for full impact.

I'm also fairly sure the author doesn't understand the time frame of procreation, or maybe just didn't care.

I've read much worse but I regret picking it up all the same.
