A Desolation Called Peace by Arkady Martine
5.0
I loved this book even more than A Memory Called Empire, and I really enjoyed A Memory Called Empire. I think it's the multiple perspectives, already knowing (and loving) the culture and characters, and the first-contact scenario that make this book even better than the first.
We follow Mahit and Three Seagrass as they are once again caught up in imperial politics, this time involving an unknown and incomprehensible alien enemy, as well as Station and Ministry of War machinations. This book pulls you in with its excellent characters, complexly woven plot, and rich worldbuilding - I picked it up two days ago and couldn't put it down until I was finished. I only wish this was a trilogy, rather than a duology - I want more!
