The Journal of Nicholas Cresswell, 1774-1777 by Nicholas Cresswell

slow-paced
This book is impossible to rate. On the one hand, this is a brilliant piece of history with a very unique view of the world at the time of writing. Cresswell probably lived more in those 3 years and 4 months than many other people will do in an entire lifetime. So many wonderful details are in there, making history come alive.

...but it's at times also a somewhat plodding and boring book. You need to be in the right frame of mind to really enjoy it.
