The Boss Who Stole Christmas by Jana Aston

3.0

Just ok

This book was just ok. It was a very cutesy Christmas book as I expected and hoped for but there were a few things that just didn’t jive for me with the story.
First, the book was written entirely in the first person from only the FMC’s perspective. This never gave us an opportunity to see anything from the MMC’s point of view which gave the book an overall flat feeling.
Second, the book is supposed to be an enemies to lovers/sunshine vs grump trope but all I really could see was that Holly was mad at her new boss for making her do her job and pushing her to do it better, then rewarding her with a trip to Germany. He didn’t come off as a jerk, ya he was a bit stoic but the only time we see him as a jerk is when she calls him one. Holly was actually the jerk, she lies to him, scowls at him and acts like a spoiled brat. It made no sense that he liked her (and since we never got his perspective we never know why he liked her).
Thirdly, they didn’t seem to have any connection other than lust. There was an opportunity to connect them over their ideals about the toys they sell or the business they work at but it never really got there. It seems like all they wanted was to do dirty things to each, highlighted by the gift she gives him at the end.
There was a lot of opportunity to make this book sweeter and deeper but it missed the mark. The story never fully delivered on its potential, and though it is a novella there was still opportunity to develop something other than lust.
So ya, just ok for me.
