The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi Lee
5.0
Currently one of my favourite books that I have read this year! I immediately fell in love with Monty, and outgoing gent who loves a bit of mischief. Unfortunately for me, he has his eyes set solely on Percy, and as the book progresses, a beautiful romance flourishes. The aspect that I enjoy the most about this novel is the diversity of characters. Bisexuality, homosexuality, smart women/gender inequality, people of colour, abusive father, class systems, epilepsy, and more, are all handled in an illuminating but not overbearing way.
Some people have critiqued whether the events of the novel are realistic for the time period (18th Century) but personally I don't think that this should be an issue. This novel has not been written as historical fact, and instead we should read this novel as a way to stretch our imagination.
