Night Embrace by Sherrilyn Kenyon
4.0

I am Darkness. I am Shadow. I am the Ruler of the Night. I, alone, stand between mankind and those who would see mankind destroyed. I am the Guardian. The Soulless Keeper. Neither Human, nor Apollite, I exist beyond the realm of the Living, beyond the realm of the Dead. I am the Dark-Hunter. And I am Eternal...

This book follows Talon, a Dark-Hunter who was in the previous book, Night Pleasures. If you read the it, you would know a bit about Talon's history, mainly how he became a Dark-Hunter and how tragic it was. As this book continues you learn that the act of betrayal that started his immortal life wasn't the first tragedy in his life. He always had to prove himself just to be considered, and didn't even live his human life for himself.

Then he meets Selena, the spunky artist who can't leave her house without having to turn back several times because she always forgets something. She is stubborn, tough, and used to looking out for herself, even though she doesn't have to since she has her family to watch her back and protect her as well. She intrigues Talon like no one else before and he can't stay away from her. Unfortunately he also can't seem to keep his emotions under control, and control is what makes him powerful.

...unless I find that one pure heart who will never betray me. The one whose faith and courage can return my soul to me and bring me back into the light.

Like this entire series, there is a lot of sex. But the plot line continues as a new battle has to take place if they are gonna be able to stay together. A new big bad guy(s) shows up trying to wreak destruction as usual, but Sherrilyn Kenyon always manages to keep her work from being cliche by making sure all of her characters have a great development. They have loves, and fears and they grow from the experiences in the book.
