First of all, Nita Prose has written quite the mystery, especially when it comes to the ending. I just watched this brief interview with her and enjoyed hearing more about part of the inspiration for Molly's temperament. I found myself thinking of Astrid as she and Molly process interactions in much the same manner.
As for the mystery, while it took Molly a bit of time to realize just what was happening and who, actually, was a friend and who was not, as the reader I had already figured out the relationships. It was readily apparent to me what was happening. However, the ending was absolutely a surprise and completely unexpected!
I enjoyed meeting Molly and her new friends, and look forward to reading about her further adventures.
