I never heard of the Camino de Santiago until I picked up this book. This writer Hape, a German comedian, decides to take a religious pilgrimage to: find God/himself/spiritual inspiration/direction/take a break from life. He journals his experiences and feelings as he travels through the different towns and describes the various characters he encounters along the way. He is honest in describing his outlook of the towns, people he meets, his strength/weaknesses about the journey, however, he always ends each chapter on a positive note. I feel very inspired to take this same pilgrimage and I'm glad Hape was detailed enough about certain parts of the camino. I absolutely agree and relate to his standards of accommodations; he refused to stay in the hostels/refugios due to the number of people, lack of privacy and cleanliness. He writes humorously and bluntly, which keeps the reader interested on how his journey would end. I highly enjoyed this book and would read more memoirs by this author if he releases more (in English).
