The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath

5.0

I am often resistant to reading novels that are highly popular and deemed as classics, but The Bell Jar has just assumed a spot on my favorites shelf.

This coming of age novel does not shy away from addressing mental illness and the feelings of being trapped in your own head and inside society and the madness that can come from trying to conform.

Obviously, The Bell Jar explores more than just mental illness and feelings of entrapment, but those were the two aspects that I latched onto the most. The two that felt like she was speaking from my own soul.

If you can handle the true despair of the main character, I would recommend The Bell Jar.
