The Paragon Hotel by Lyndsay Faye

4.0

"When you lose a place that once was safe, the hole remains, and you can never get that piece of yourself back again."

The Paragon Hotel is modeled after the Portland's Golden West Hotel, the only hotel where people of color were permitted to stay in the 1920s. The chapters in this historical thriller alternate between "then" and "now". I found the characters fascinating and the plot twists were page-turning. The historical note at the end of the book is not to be missed. The subject of racism and violence in the 1920's felt all to similar to 2020.
