Of Women and Salt by Gabriela Garcia

OF WOMEN AND SALT by GABRIELA GARCIA

“Even as a child, Jeanette understood that another narrative she couldn’t access had shaped her life.”

This is the story of great-grandmothers, grandmothers, mothers and daughters. This is the story of Cuba and Miami and Florida and Mexico and El Salvador and immigration and deportation. But mostly, this is the story of a woman who is suffering generational trauma from what the women in her family have been through. She can’t always put her finger on it, but there is something she knows she doesn’t know that will always haunt her.

I finished this late last night and then struggled to sleep after because it was so complex and so moving.

A fantastic novel, indeed. Also an important novel.

Thanks to @bookbeforeuleap for sending this on to me.
