These Violent Delights by Chloe Gong

HOLY. SHIT. I flew through this audiobook in one day. This was such an addicting and interesting story. I honestly can’t believe it is a debut novel because the author weaves together the main plot and subplots effortlessly. There’s the right amount of chill moments and ‘oh shit’ moments.

I’m an intense lover of ‘enemies to lovers’ and I’m always talking about how so many of these books just do not be delivering enemies to lovers like they advertise. I’m just searching high and low for some good ass enemies to lovers, and let me say, this is some GOOD SHIT. This book DELIVERED that enemies to lovers, baby.

This is like the “childhood friends to lovers to enemies to lovers to allies to enemies again” like PERIOD thank you chloe gong for restoring my faith in authors to deliver some good enemies to lovers.

I loved the romance (and usually I dislike romances in books because they just don’t sell me, so that’s CRAZY)!! I also loved both main characters, like Juliette and Roma are great and please let them be together okay.

I enjoyed the plot and the setting. I really loved the side characters too, like Kathleen, Marshall, and Benedikt are great, please let Marshall and Benedikt just be happy together okay??!? My only issue was that I was on audiobook (that’s all my library had), which I feel kind of makes it difficult to focus on some stuff like the changing between the languages and dialects and all that, and it was kind of confusing on audiobook but yeah. Other than that, I felt like I could totally picture everything and the descriptions were great without being HEAVY, because I feel like I really notice how heavy setting descriptions are when I’m listening to an audiobook.

Anyways I’m just rambling now but I loved the book!! I felt all the emotions and it was just so intense.
