On the Way to the Wedding by Julia Quinn

Consider this a review of the whole book series:

This is the end of a year long journey for me. After season 2 of Bridgerton came out and I loved it so much that I was excited to be experiencing the hype everyone else had about season 1, I decided to read all of the books.

It started off well. The books were easy to read. They weren’t literary masterpieces but they were enjoyable enough. I knew what I was getting myself into, cheesy, slightly problematic (sometimes very problematic), and repetitive romance novels from the early 2000s. I was marathoning them. Then I hit a wall with books four and five; I didn’t particularly enjoy those. My brain was melting but I was determined to finish. Books six and seven were breaths in fresh air after four and five. I had one book left… and I couldn’t do it anymore. I got about 20% into book eight and I just had to stop.

Fast forward to now. I’ve been reading a lot lately and am in the midst of a hypo-manic episode and the series was just sitting on my kindle, one book not marked as “read.” And so, I finally finished this series.

These books are fine. They are what they are; cheesy, repetitive, slightly problematic romance novels from the early 2000s. If you know that then I think you’ll like these books just fine. I have my favourites (books 3, 6, and 7) and I have the ones I kinda detest (books 4 and 5) and the others are just fine. I can actually see myself rereading my favourites. If I want something quick and easy to read or something wish-fulfillmenty. They can be charming. I won’t tell anybody I’m rereading them but I for sure will at some point; I’m big on re-consuming media.

And this ends my Bridgerton journey until season 3 comes out (and I’ll be suing Shonda Rhimes if Benedict’s season doesn’t happen soon).
