Wolf's Head, Wolf's Heart by Jane Lindskold
4.0

Much of what I liked about the first book, I liked about the second. I enjoyed the nuances of politics and the theme of man against nature, and in this case, against magic. I am fond of how Lindskold writes. The details aren't overbearing and the plot doesn't slow to a crawl at any point. It was easy for me to pick up and put down this book and get right back into the story from where I left off. I am very interested in what will happen to Great Peace, Firekeeper, Derian, and Elise. I was actually really please with how the character development was very believable and a gradual change over the course of events.

I would recommend this book to those of you who enjoy reading fantasy with a bit of politics, as well as a bit of blood and gore. It wasn't all that prominent, but enough to get the job done and not feel like the reader was being treated with "kid gloves." But yes, I will continue to read on on the near future. I am enjoying the books so far.

The only part of this book that disappointed me was the "threat of rape" trope that happened somewhere in the middle. I felt like, yes that could be construe as an appropriate threat that could have been there, but the situation could also just have been as dangerous by the threat of death without the hint of rape. I'm not saying the tension creating moment was ineffective, just a little disappointed at its use.
