I've liked all the characters in this series, but Willa and Hayes have become my favorites. I felt emotional connections and understandings with them.
They also were very true to their ages. They were still figuring themselves out and afraid of imposing that onto the other because they assumed the other had it all figured out.
I really liked that we got a bigger insight into all the aspects of Hayes's personality and why he plays football. His discussion with his dad gave realistic insight into how grief shapes our lives."“When your mom died, I did the best I could to raise you boys on my own. Being on the field with me was the only way I knew I could keep this family together without her. But I never meant for you to think that football was your only option, your only worth.”" and then later Hayes takes this understanding to look on what he wants in life. "“Won’t it?” They didn’t fucking understand and the tightness building in my chest exploded. “Do you not see how dead I already was? I was a god damned robot. Family, football, school. That was it, that was my entire life, and I’m telling you right the fuck now, that’s not living.”"
Also, Hayes has major Ben Wyatt energy."I wondered if it would be too geeky for me to ask her to wear it for me later. Only the headset."
