I liked the book but I have to admit, this is a rare case where the movie (1976) is actually better than the book, but they complement each other nicely.
Also, I would like to add that for a male author, the matter of female sexuality is nicely handled, although it may differ on personal interpretation.
And the ending is not that bad! For Stephen King anyway. The movie ending is still better though.
